Tempting energy balls

There are days when our body needs a little more support than usual to get us through the day. Sometimes we just need a little extra energy to cope with the many tasks we face in everyday life. That's exactly why I always have energy balls on hand. These little tempting energy balls have saved me more than just a few times!

These energy balls are a delicious combination of flavoured hazelnuts, energy-rich rolled oats and, for that little something extra, a little cocoa. Their flavour almost makes them taste like a praline - but a very healthy one!

The best thing about energy balls is that they are super easy and, above all, quick to make. The only tool you need is a powerful blender or, even better, a food processor. It will do the rest almost by itself.

The reward is great: a ball full of nutrients that is simply absolutely delicious.

Hazelnuts are real power nuts because they are rich in unsaturated fatty acids, fibre and antioxidants. The hazelnuts also give the energy balls a wonderfully chocolatey flavour.

The cocoa makes these energy balls very special. Not only does it make an incredibly tasty contribution to the flavour, it also scores points with its high antioxidant content. To literally give the energy balls a little more bite, I use both cocoa powder and cocoa nibs. By the way, cocoa is also a great source of magnesium.

As almost always, I use oats in this recipe because of their unique flavour and the many nutrients they contain. As oats are rich in fibre and complex carbohydrates, they provide plenty of energy and, above all, long-lasting energy - exactly what we need on busy and stressful days. They also contain many important B vitamins, proteins and minerals, which are all important for a healthy body.


Ingredients (makes about 20 energy balls)

200g hazelnuts

200g rolled oats

6 dates, pitted

1 tbsp raw cocoa powder

1 tsp cinnamon

for a little "extra":

1 tsp ginger, ground


Preparation
  1. Place all the ingredients in the Food-Professor and mix until a paste forms.

  2. With slightly damp hands, shape the mixture into small energy balls. Store in the fridge.
